He didn't wait for a community to be built but he founded the Data Mesh Italia MeetUp group and is globally recognised as one of the community's "People to Follow." Even better, he takes the headache out of governance: he created and open-sourced the Governance Decision Record (GDR) framework, turning abstract policies into computational reality. This work earned him a spot as a co-author on the influential "Getting Data Mesh Buy-In" whitepaper.

💻 Building at TeraByte Scale

Before DHL, Roberto was building the foundational Big Data systems of Europe.

His experience includes leading a three-year re-platforming project for a major utility, constructing a massive, TB/day Lambda architecture using Scala and Apache Spark. This is a veteran who moves seamlessly from the old-school Hadoop stack to cutting-edge Azure platforms, holding both Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer and prior Cloudera certifications.

Roberto brings a unique, disciplined approach to leadership:

• He’s mentored over 40 people, driven by a culture of bi-directional learning and a love for self-management frameworks like Holacracy.
• Outside of work, he's a certified Scuba Diver and a former freediving athlete/instructor. This passion for challenge and discipline translates directly into his problem-solving skills at work.
• His early work as a musician and tech blog editor makes him the rare architect who can communicate complex design choices to any audience be it engineers or C-level executives.
